Data, purposes and retention

If you contact me by email, WhatsApp or telephone, I process the information you choose to send, such as your name, contact details, destination, dates and preferences, to reply and assess your travel enquiry. The legal basis is taking pre-contractual steps at your request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Providing information is optional; without sufficient contact and trip details I may be unable to reply. Please avoid including health information or other particularly sensitive details in your first message.

The “Tell me about your trip” form opens a draft email on your device: the website does not store your answers, and I receive them only if you send the email. To serve and protect the website, the hosting service may process technical data, including your IP address, browser and requested pages; the legal basis is the legitimate interest in operating and securing the service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Messages may be handled by email, messaging and hosting providers. I keep them for as long as necessary to deal with the enquiry; if a contract follows, related records are kept in line with applicable obligations. Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area under safeguards required by law. Bookings and travel services may also be covered by the privacy notices of the businesses selling or organising them.

Your rights

Where provided by the GDPR, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing or data portability, or object to processing. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. To exercise your rights, email s.ferrato@thetravelexpert.it.

Cookies and similar technologies

The website uses necessary local storage to remember your analytics choice. Only if you select “Accept analytics” does it load Google Analytics 4 (ID G-EDL3S18LSN) to measure visits, pages viewed and aggregate interactions; it may set cookies such as _ga. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you decline, the Analytics tag does not load. You can change your choice via “Cookie choices” in the footer. Withdrawal stops new collection; you can delete existing cookies in your browser settings. Google processes data under its privacy notice, potentially including transfers outside the European Economic Area. Analytics data is retained according to the property settings and Google’s rules.

The hosting service may use technical measures needed to display and protect the pages. The website also loads fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google’s servers to display them. Links to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Civitatis lead to external services. In the Italian Journal, the Tokyo and New York Civitatis widgets load only if you open a city: your browser then contacts Civitatis, which may process technical data and use cookies under its privacy notice.

Security

The website is available over an HTTPS connection. The contact form does not store answers on the website; after you send an email or WhatsApp message, the respective service providers also handle the data. The security of transmitted information also depends on those providers' measures and the devices used.
